The European Joint Undertaking for Iter and the Development of Fusion for Energy

Delivery of services and associated supplies to conduct nuclear Radiation Testing / Irradiation Tests (RT/IT) with the aim to assess the performance and reliability of prototypes to be used for the operation and maintenance of ITER as specified in the Tender Specifications, and requirements as set out in the Management and Technical Specifications attached therein.
LOT 1 refers to irradiation testing services requiring the use of nuclear fission reactors, post-irradiation examination (hot-cells) and nuclear transport capability.
LOT 2 refers to irradiation testing services requiring the use of gamma irradiation facilities.

Option 1: Extension of the Contract duration.

Fusion for Energy may decide to exercise the option to prolong the four (4) year Contract duration by periods of one (1) year to a maximum of two (2) additional years and for storage to a maximum of seven (7) additional years.

Option 2: F4E Hardware support.

F4E may require the Supplier, within a reasonable limit, to support F4E and/or parties designated by F4E for the preparation and/or follow-up of procurement contracts issued by F4E; provide support to supervise the work performed on site of other parties (i.e. where procurement/manufacturing will be conducted).

Option 3: Additional Storage.

F4E may require the Supplier to store the Hardware and F4E Hardware and equipment as defined in the tender specifications.

Option 4: Transport.

F4E may require from the Supplier regular/conventional transport as defined in the tender specifications.

Technical feasibility of fusion power.

The European Joint Undertaking for ITER and the Development of Fusion Energy, (hereinafter “Fusion for Energy” or “the Joint Undertaking”) is a joint undertaking created under the Euratom Treaty by European Union Council Decision 2007/198/Euratom of 27.3.2007 establishing the European Joint Undertaking for ITER and the Development of Fusion Energy and conferring advantages upon it.

Fusion for Energy is established for a period of 35 years from 19.4.2007 and is situated in Barcelona, Spain. The organisation has the following Members:

— Euratom, represented by the European Commission,

— the Member States of Euratom,

— third countries which have concluded cooperation agreements with Euratom in fusion that associate their respective research programmes with the Euratom programmes and which have expressed their wish to become Members.

Fusion for Energy's role is to provide the European contribution to the ITER International Fusion Energy Project, to implement the Broader Approach Agreement with Japan and to prepare for development demonstration fusion reactors ("DEMO"), therefore Fusion for Energy will play a key role in realising fusion as possible future source of energy.
