Interplay of standard developing organisations and intellectual property rights systems in the ICT industry
This study aims from a public policy perspective at achieving a comprehensive overview of the structure of the interplay of intellectual property rights (IPR) systems and standard developing organisations (SDOs) in Europe. The 2 most important European IPR systems are the European patent system and the European trademark system. The study should find out whether the current model of governance for this interplay of IPR systems and SDOs is functioning well from a welfare perspective. And in case it is not, why and how could the interplay of these systems be improved? The results of this study will provide concrete recommendations on EU standardisation policy, in the context of the European DSM initiative.
