High heat flux testing of mock-ups and pre-qualification inner vertical target prototypes

The European Joint Undertaking for ITER and the Development of Fusion Energy ('Fusion for Energy')

The contract covers the preparation and the performance of the high heat flux (HHF) thermal fatigue testing of:
— 20 W mock-ups,
— 16 CFC mock-ups,
— 2 W IVT pre-qualification medium-scale prototypes.
It also covers the manufacturing and the critical heat flux (CHF) testing of 5 so-called 'CHF mock-ups'.
The work shall be spread into 4 tasks, as described hereunder:
3 of the tasks (tasks A to C) shall consist of the thermal fatigue testing of the following list of components.
— Task A: 16 CFC mock-ups, manufactured by 2 different companies, namely Plansee (8 units) and Ansaldo (8 units) with Meggitt Meggagard and Toyo Tanso CX2002U CFC grades,
— task B: straight parts of 2 W IVT pre-qualification prototypes manufactured by 2 different companies, namely Plansee (1 unit) and Ansaldo (1 unit). The prototype manufactured by each supplier will be made from 3 different W grades,
— task C: 20 W mock-ups manufactured by 2 different companies, namely Plansee (15 units) and Ansaldo (5 units). The mock-ups manufactured by each supplier will be made from 3 different W grades,
— task D consists of the design, the manufacturing and the CHF testing of the 5 CHF mock-ups.
