The European Joint Undertaking for Iter and the Development of Fusion for Energy

Acquisition of the services and supplies for :
- the integration design of about 20 port-based diagnostic systems into 7 ITER ports; and
- the built-to-print designs of the housing structures hosting diagnostic components. In-vessel, these structures consist of about 9 different, complex, actively cooled, stainless steel housings, weighing between 5T to 20T each, designed to meet diagnostics requirements while coping with the ITER environment.

Descripción de las opciones:

Option 1: Contract renewal.

Fusion for Energy may decide to exercise the option to prolong the Contract duration by periods of one (1) year up to three (3) times, bringing the total Contract period to a maximum of seven (7) years. For further details, please refer to the tender documents - model Contract Article I.2.5.

Option 2: Fusion diagnostics expertise.

Fusion for Energy may require the Supplier to provide fusion diagnostics expertise services as specified in the tender documents - Technical Specification (Annex B). The Tenderer is not required at the bidding stage to demonstrate the capacity to provide such services.

Option 3: Support to later phases of the project.

Fusion for Energy may require the Supplier to provide support services for further contracts to be implemented by other parties as part of the overall port integration project, as specified in the tender documents - Technical Specification (Annex B). The Tenderer is not required at the bidding stage to demonstrate the capacity to provide such services.

Option 4: Procurement of test hardware.

Fusion for Energy may require the Supplier to procure test hardware as specified in the tender documents - Technical Specification (Annex B). The Supplier shall have the capacity to provide such supplies and services.

Option 5: Storage, transport and disposal of test hardware.

Fusion for Energy may require the Supplier to securely store, transport and dispose of, part, or all, of the test hardware, to be procured and/or manufactured by Fusion for Energy or the Supplier, and to be used in the implementation of the Contract. For this purpose, F4E may also require yearly extensions of the Contract, up to a maximum of six (6) additional years; bringing the total Contract duration, only for what regards this option, to a maximum of ten (10) years, as per tender documents - Article I.2.6 of the model Contract

Technical feasibility of fusion power.

The European Joint Undertaking for ITER and the Development of Fusion Energy, (hereinafter “Fusion for

Energy” or “the Joint Undertaking”) is a joint undertaking created under the Euratom Treaty by European

Union Council Decision 2007/198/Euratom of 27 March 2007 establishing the European Joint Undertaking for

ITER and the Development of Fusion Energy and conferring advantages upon it .

Fusion for Energy is established for a period of 35 years from 19th April 2007 and is situated in Barcelona,

Spain. The organisation has the following Members:

- Euratom, represented by the European Commission;

- the Member States of Euratom;

- third countries which have concluded cooperation agreements with Euratom in fusion that associate their

respective research programmes with the Euratom programmes and which have expressed their wish to

become Members.

Fusion for Energy's role is to provide the European contribution to the ITER International Fusion Energy

Project, to implement the Broader Approach Agreement with Japan and to prepare for development

demonstration fusion reactors ("DEMO"), therefore Fusion for Energy will play a key role in realising fusion as

possible future source of energy.
